Tsunamis remind us how interconnected our world truly is. A seismic shift in one ocean can ripple across nations in hours. I once met a responder who said, “You can’t outrun water, but you can outsmart it.” That’s the essence of awareness.
Tsunami preparedness is built on three pillars: education, early warning, and evacuation routes. Yet too often, those routes are poorly marked or unknown to tourists. Coastal resilience starts with public awareness, knowing the signs, heeding alerts, and never hesitating when sirens sound.
For healthcare providers, tsunami response teaches humility. We can’t control nature, but we can control how quickly and compassionately we respond.
Call to Action: If you live near a coastline or plan to visit one, learn your evacuation routes and tsunami warning signals today. Share that knowledge, it may one day save someone’s life.
