Adventures with Nurse Jamla

The Marshall Project

Nurse Jamla

There has been a lot of comments out there about the incarcerated fire fighters that have been supporting LA in fighting the fires. However, the comments highlight the inequities as the pay is $10/day.

This post is not for or against the work being done or the pay they are receiving, but rather how these individuals who are cared for in the prison system, with access to healthcare and meals, are drawing the attention of celebrities advocating on their behalf to get paid more, when others in communities can barely afford to support their families while making minimum wage.

I encourage us all to not pick and choose but rather fight on behalf of those that need our support. Those that work multiple jobs and still don’t make ends meet or have the opportunity to go on vacation or spend time with their families. People like my family. Like me, growing up.

My call to action is for all of us to use our voices and our platforms to highlight the bias and advocate for all those that need our support everyday.
