Cutting the American Physician Shortage With International Doctors | Cicero Institute
We talk a lot about the shortage of nurses, as we should, because it is important, but what about the shortage of providers?
This is NOT a political post, but rather an awareness post in regard to: Visa Pause Could Leave U.S. With Fewer New Doctors Amid Shortage
There has been a push to limit nurses from other countries to practice in the USA because their countries needed them just as much as we do! Though many left for professional growth, job security, and increase in financial pay, that does fix the problem that all over the world, we have a shortage of nursing.
In some countries, medical schools no longer exist. This is especially true in the Middle East, as it pertains to ongoing war, where travel is prohibited and medical students have limited/no opportunity to finish their residency.
That leaves me with the question: what are we doing to ensure that we have educated medical providers that are reflective of the population in which they serve?
Without nurses and medical providers, who will be there to care for future generations?
My call to action for you all is to identify states allowing international doctors to practice without U.S. residency, and if your state isn’t on the list, that is an opportunity to educate law makers.
