I listened to a sermon today about the topic in the title, and I admit I was not interested in the beginning.
It started off as one would expend, highlighting the importance of have one good thing, rather than a lot of things that are mediocre.

I had many cups of coffee this day, but none was as good as this one. It was the quality that made it stand out compared to the others. Sounds silly, I know, but it was a really good cup of coffee.

I had one peaceful experience after trying to “relax” all day, without any luck. No matter how many times I tried or where I went, nothing was as comforting that being here, in this moment in this place. Quality versus quantity.

I had many snacks throughout the day, but the quality of this shawarma sandwich, was like nothing else I had eaten all day. Silly, yes. I am aware, but this is another example of quality versus quantity.

Although, between these two pictures, the quality of the flowers was more important than the quantity. Their color radiated beauty.

Which brings me to the point of this post. We only have one life to live. Regardless of your thoughts on the afterlife, we need to prioritize our time here on this earth, doing what is important and what we are passionate about.
As I reflect on all that I have been blessed to accomplish, I can’t ignore all the losses as well and how those impacted me. Most importantly, I wish my mother was around to support me as mothers so often do.
Today, on her birthday, I am taking time to reflect on all the beauty that is around us, to enjoy the quality of things, not how much of something I have.
I wish you all the same opportunity to appreciate what you have and not how much of it you have. In an instant, it can all be taken away, so let’s appreciate all the “quality” things and people we have in our life.
In memory of Kiki and what would have been a “first” mother’s day.
