As a first responder, I personally want to thank all those that put the needs of others first. Those that leave their families behind to respond to those in need in the communities we serve.
This is a thankless job at times, but to me, it is so much more than a paycheck or a thank you. To me, it is knowing that I can help someone, no matter how small, in their time of need.
I remember holding the hand of an anxious patient who was having a hard time breathing in the back of the ambulance, as we made our way to the hospital. I can never forget the trauma patient who was afraid to get in the helicopter, as we flew to the trauma center and how the relief on his face was evident once he started talking to me.
This job is so much more than accolades and acknowledgments. This is why I salute all my colleagues in the field and say thank you for continuing to serve.
