FEMA has published the third edition of the National Disaster Recovery Framework (NDRF). The NDRF outlines the federal government’s approach to providing disaster recovery resources and support and explains its roles and responsibilities for organizing and deploying disaster recovery assistance.
When NPDC reviewed the 61-page document we found:
- The word “children” 9 times.
- The word “schools” 7 times
- The word “infant” 1 time
- The word “youth” 5 times.
- The phrase “special needs” 0 times
- The acronym AFN (for Access and Functional Needs) 5 times
- The word “childcare” 2 times
This is an improvement over previous guidance documents. Please ensure appropriate members of your community have access to this updated guidance.
Call to Action:
- Perform a word search on your planning documents to check if the needs of children are included
