Prolonged Casualty Care Principles: From the Battlefield to Disaster Response

I’m especially excited to present alongside a PA colleague and bring together military, civilian, and nursing perspectives to explore how the principles of prolonged casualty care translate from military medicine into disaster response.

When evacuation is delayed, resources are limited, infrastructure is disrupted, and definitive care may be hours, or longer, away, healthcare professionals have to adapt. These are realities encountered on the battlefield, but they are also realities we face during disasters and other austere environments.

Together, we’ll explore the lessons that cross those environments and how different members of the healthcare team contribute their expertise when conventional systems of care are no longer available.

That collaboration matters because no single profession responds to a disaster alone.
