Today, on Human Rights Day, I’m reflecting on two powerful essays I recently engaged with, both deeply moving and deeply necessary in these times.

• In “Menstruar en guerra”, the author draws attention to the often overlooked crisis of menstrual health for women living in conflict zones, a stark reminder that basic dignity and bodily autonomy remain out of reach for millions. 
• Meanwhile, “Brotes verdes” explores the psychic and emotional scars borne by children who grow up in war-torn areas, and also points to the fragile glimmers of hope and resilience if we act with compassion and solidarity. 

These pieces remind me that human rights are not abstract ideals, they are deeply personal, and often painfully unmet realities. That’s what Human Rights Day calls us to remember.

🔹 Today, as we commemorate the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, let’s renew our commitment to seeing human rights not only as global principles, but as concrete actions. Whether it’s fighting for health equity, protecting children’s psychological well-being in conflict zones, or championing dignity for those who are marginalized, each act counts. 

I’m grateful to have journalists that are forward thinking and are advocates for highlighting the struggles of people in the world.  I hope they prompt more action, awareness, and empathy in our networks, today and every day.
