Each year, more than 1,000 cases of severe frostbite are reported in the United States, disproportionately affecting vulnerable and high-risk populations including individuals experiencing homelessness, outdoor workers, cold-weather sports enthusiasts, older adults, and military personnel Dr. Eric Johnson December 2025.
