Every year, I look forward to celebrating Emergency Nurses Week, with my fellow nurses from around the world. However, this year, I struggle to celebrate, knowing the ongoing struggles of the Palestinian people.

I have lost friends and family. I have cried for my own losses selfishly, when these nurses and healthcare providers are caring for their own, often pronouncing their own family members as they come in.

So, although I don’t feel like celebrating, I do want to honor the nurses that have lost their lives caring for others and I pray this war ends so that next year, we all have a reason to celebrate.
