Effect of Wildfires on Pediatric Respiratory Illness

Nurse Jamla

One thing I learned during this congress was the incredible work people are doing as it pertains to pediatrics.

We all know that children from lower socioeconomic backgrounds have worser outcomes, but how often do you hear about the health effects of wildfires?

This presentation highlighted proactive measures to support children during wildfires by preparing a ready-made bag of medication to provide support.

This mitigation strategy will greatly decrease the number of visits to the emergency department, but also allows the child and family, to stay at home to avoid more risks by leaving.

When was the last time you talked to your pharmacist about an initiative that can jointly be worked on to support children from low socioeconomic communities?

If we are proactive, we can decrease hospitalizations and long-term complications.
