As Ramadan almost comes to an end, I want to reflect on all the disasters that have happened this month, with the Myanmar earthquake.
From pediatric preparedness to educational content free courses to enhance our learning to raising awareness on how disaster impact vulnerable communities.
My goal is to continue to share educational content and resources that are evidence-based, free, and relevant to the current environment.
Let’s start off with pediatrics. The Pediatric Preparedness Network (PPN) has a website and a listserv and is on all social media platforms. I highly encourage you to check them out as the content they put out is applicable, bit just to peds, but families too.
With all the changes happening, it is important that we have content and resources available to care for children, not just physically, but mentally.
The Turkey/Syrian earthquakes a few years ago highlighted heartbreaking images of family members holding the hands of their children buried under the debris.

The images of children saying goodbye to their dead siblings in the war in the middle east, has made me personally, shed many tears.

These are just a few examples of the impact of disasters on pediatric patients and the need for mental health support now and in the future.
Generational trauma continues to be passed down due to our inability to understand the long-term implications of these disasters.
My call to action for you all as this Ramadan is to remember that we ALL have the opportunity to make a difference in this world, we just have to want to make the world a better place.
