Adventures with Nurse Jamla

25 Years Later: We Remember. We Honor. We Serve.

Nurse Jamla

On September 11, 2001, our world changed forever.

For those of us in emergency services, healthcare, public safety, and disaster response, the events of that morning are more than history. They are part of our collective memory. We remember those who went to work and never came home. We remember the first responders who ran toward danger. We remember the healthcare professionals who stood ready. We remember the families, the survivors, and the communities forever changed.

And 25 years later, we are still remembering.

On Friday, September 11, 2026, at 8:46 a.m. ET, the New York State Emergency Nurses Association will come together on Facebook Live to mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

I hope you will join us.

This is not simply a ceremony. It is an opportunity for us to come together as a community, to remember, to honor, to reflect, and to share the stories that should never be forgotten.

❤️ Share the name of someone you are remembering.
📍 Tell us where you are joining from.
💬 Share a memory from that day or the days, weeks, and months that followed.
🚑 Tell us about a responder, nurse, healthcare worker, or community member whose service you will never forget.

Whether you are joining us from New York, across the country, or somewhere around the world, you are part of this remembrance.

Honoring Those Who Answered the Call

Remembrance also means caring for those who continue to carry the legacy of that day.

The NYS ENA 9/11 Rescue Workers Scholarship supports rescue workers pursuing an associate or baccalaureate degree in nursing. Two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded.

I especially encourage our rescue workers who have thought about becoming nurses, or who are already working toward that goal, to learn more and apply.

Twenty-five years have passed, but the responsibility to remember has not.

Some stories are difficult to tell. Some memories remain as vivid as if they happened yesterday. Others belong to a new generation that knows September 11 through the stories we choose to preserve.

That is why we keep telling them.

Please join us at 8:46 a.m. ET on September 11, 2026. Bring your memories. Bring the names of those you want remembered. Bring your stories.

Please share this with your colleagues, departments, hospitals, EMS agencies, fire departments, friends, and families so they can join us as well.

We remember. We honor. We serve.

25 years later, we remember together.
