This year’s theme, “Designing the Future: DNPs Leading Systems, Science, and Social Change,” is particularly meaningful to me.
Throughout my nursing career, I’ve learned that leadership isn’t just about the title you hold or the credentials behind your name. It’s about what you do with your knowledge, the decisions you make when resources are limited, and your willingness to challenge systems that aren’t meeting the needs of the people they’re supposed to serve.
As an emergency and disaster nurse, I’ve seen firsthand how health inequities become even more pronounced during crises. I’ve also seen how nurses can influence meaningful change when they’re willing to step beyond traditional roles.
