Jamla Rizek, DNP, MBA, RN, CEN, CPEN, NHDP-BC, NRP, FAAN, FAEN, is a nationally recognized emergency and disaster nursing leader, healthcare executive, educator, and speaker with more than two decades of experience spanning emergency care, prehospital medicine, disaster response, humanitarian operations, and health system preparedness. Her work bridges frontline clinical expertise with executive-level leadership in high-consequence and resource-constrained environments.
Dr. Rizek has held multiple senior leadership and advisory roles focused on emergency preparedness, workforce resilience, disaster response, and healthcare operations. She has contributed to strategic planning, operational oversight, and interdisciplinary coordination for large-scale domestic and international emergencies, bringing a systems-level perspective to crisis leadership and emergency management.
She has extensive experience supporting infectious disease response, disaster recovery, humanitarian operations, and emergency response initiatives in austere and complex environments. Her leadership and sustained service have been recognized through numerous national honors and professional distinctions for excellence in emergency preparedness, humanitarian response, and nursing leadership.
In addition to her operational leadership, Dr. Rizek is an accomplished scholar, editor, and educator whose work focuses on disaster nursing, pediatric disaster preparedness, health system resilience, workforce readiness, crisis leadership, and humanitarian health. She serves as the Disaster Nursing Section Editor for the Journal of Emergency Nursing and as a Deputy Editor for Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM), contributing to global disaster health strategy and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Dr. Rizek is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Nursing and the Academy of Emergency Nursing. She is also the founder of Adventures with Nurse Jamla, an education and consulting platform focused on disaster preparedness, leadership development, emergency nursing, and health system resilience.
