A cozy holiday-themed workspace with a laptop, plants, and decorations, featuring icons for emergency preparedness and safety.

As families gather for the holidays, most people don’t think about disasters. Yet house fires, cooking injuries, and carbon-monoxide poisonings peak this time of year. Gratitude and preparedness can coexist, in fact, they should.

Every year, I remind myself that safety is an act of love. Checking smoke detectors before a big meal or keeping a fire extinguisher near the kitchen isn’t paranoia, it’s protection. For responders, the holidays can bring increased call volume and emotional strain, so self-care matters, too.

Preparedness doesn’t dampen celebration; it honors it. When we safeguard our homes, we safeguard our memories.

Call to Action: As you prepare your holiday meal, check your smoke alarms and review a fire-escape plan with your family. Gratitude begins with safety.
