Adventures with Nurse Jamla

What have I learned this past year?

Nurse Jamla

As 2023 comes to an end, I reflect back on everything that has happened. Most notably the challenges that people facing in regard to accessing healthcare.

It is hard for me, as a nurse, with insurance, to navigate the healthcare system, so I can’t imagine the challenges for our vulnerable populations and those who did not learn English as their primary language.

I am saddened to see the biases and inequities, both here in the USA and all over the world, as it pertains to basic healthcare.

Are we creating a bigger problem for our future by ignoring what is in front of us? Are we afraid to make waves so we don’t even bother making ripples?

We must be vigilant in our duty to ensure that we stay on top of diseases, outbreaks and public health concerns that could be disastrous if not addressed.

There are so many ways we, as clinicians, can mitigate these issues, but first we must feel comfortable speaking up.

This is a call to action. No matter what the “issue” is, make it known. Share it with others. Even if it is something that you think is known, add to it. The more we share, the more we learn how to work together and solve the problem.

Let’s not work in silos. Our future depends on us.
