In my latest Letter to the Editor in Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness (DMPH), I express concern in our preparedness levels for future disasters.
What are you doing to prepare yourself and your communities for the next disaster?
Is the plan inclusive? Does it include pediatrics or communities where English isn’t their first language? Does it include a mobility plan to evacuate those that need assistance?
If not, what are you waiting for?
Despite all our preparedness efforts, we are still having to be reactive in disaster responses, because we forget commmunities and people that are not like us.
We need to put more effort in to focusing on public health mitigations strategies that are more inclusive.
What gaps have you identified and what measures are you initiating to prepare for the next disaster?
