Adventures with Nurse Jamla

Don’t Clock Out

Nurse Jamla

How often do we think of the impact our work has on our mental health and well-being?

Nurses, along with other first responders, don’t always discuss their feelings with what they have seen. I remember my first pediatric abuse case that was so severe, the child had bald spots on her head where her hair was pulled out. Though that incident was over 15 years ago, I will never forget her face.

Our experiences impact us and sadly. there is a stigma as it pertains to accessing mental health resources. This leads to ineffective coping skills, PTSD, moral distress, and burnout.

Don’t Clock Out has a Podcast, Peer Support groups and Resources that are free to access and is geared toward supporting healthcare workers through moral distress.

I had the opportunity to do a mental health check-in with Co-Executive Director, Sarah Warren, and learn more about the challenges we all face as healthcare workers and how we are not alone.

There is healing in sharing stories and experiences with others. As an advocate for seeking out mental health resources, I know firsthand the benefits of seeking help and I encourage you all do to the same.

The more we speak out, the less the stigma has fuel to exist.

Call to action: what are YOU doing to improve your mental health or the mental health of others?
