Adventures with Nurse Jamla

🌍 International Women’s Day

The Strength of Women Who Show Up

International Women’s Day is a moment to recognize the women who lead, heal, and carry communities forward — often quietly, and often without recognition.

In healthcare and disaster response, women are present in every phase of the work.

We are at the bedside during crisis.
We lead teams under pressure.
We mentor, advocate, and rebuild long after the headlines fade.

And while the roles may vary-nurse, responder, leader, educator, caregiver-the common thread is resilience.

🩺 Women in Disaster and Emergency Care

Disaster environments demand adaptability, compassion, and strength. Women across the world continue to shape how care is delivered during some of the most difficult moments people will ever face.

We see:

  • Nurses coordinating care in chaotic environments

  • Leaders making critical decisions under pressure

  • Responders balancing clinical expertise with human connection

  • Mentors lifting others as they rise

These contributions are not always visible-but they are essential.

🌱 Leadership Beyond Titles

One of the greatest lessons from the field is that leadership doesn’t always come with a title.

It shows up in the nurse who steadies a team during uncertainty.
The colleague who checks on others before checking on themselves.
The woman who chooses compassion when exhaustion would be easier.

Leadership is often quiet-but its impact lasts.

🤝 Honoring Those Who Came Before-and Those Rising Now

International Women’s Day is also about continuity.

We stand on the shoulders of women who paved the way in healthcare, emergency response, and public health. And we have a responsibility to mentor and support the next generation-ensuring that more voices are heard, more perspectives represented, and more leaders empowered.

đź’¬ Reflection

Today, I’m thinking about the women who lead with courage, empathy, and unwavering dedication-often without expecting recognition.

Who is a woman in your life or profession whose strength has shaped your journey?
